Welcome to "Sarita’s Hearing Journey"
Introduction:
Meet Sarita Baniya, a resilient 21-year-old girl from a remote village in Nepal, near Kathmandu. Her family, burdened by poverty, had no choice but to send her away. Sarita, blind from birth like her mother and siblings, is now facing another daunting challenge—progressive hearing loss.
The Issue:
Sarita's hearing has been steadily declining due to an irreversible infection, leaving her with only 25% hearing in her right ear and almost none in her left. Without a cochlear implant, she risks becoming completely isolated from the world.

About Bright Star Society:
Bright Star Society, co-founded by disability rights activists Sushil and Basudev Adhikari, has provided Sarita with a safe haven in Kathmandu. She now lives with three other blind girls in a supportive environment. Bright Star Society is dedicated to raising awareness about disability rights and providing essential support to those in need.
Sarita’s Current Situation:
Despite her hearing impairment, Sarita continues her education and training. However, her deteriorating hearing has made daily life increasingly challenging and dangerous. Recently, she was struck by a car she couldn't hear approaching, highlighting the urgent need for a cochlear implant.
The Solution:
Sarita's only chance to preserve her hearing is through a cochlear implant—a hearing prosthesis. This surgery requires at least three months of preparatory therapy, two to three times a week. The implant will not only restore her hearing but also her ability to live independently and safely.

Our Mission:
We aim to help Sarita continue living without the fear of being cut off from the world. By supporting her, we also alleviate the concerns of her family and friends.
Our Team:
We collaborate with local advocates like Sushil Adhikari, who intimately understands the challenges and triumphs of living with a disability. Together with experienced doctors, such as Dr. Prakash Kafle and Dr. Rabindra Pradhan, we ensure Sarita receives the best care possible.
Medical Consultation:
Leading ENT specialist Dr. Prakash Kafle has confirmed that while therapy before and after the surgery may present challenges, the benefits of the cochlear implant are substantial. Sarita has already undergone consultations and is ready to begin this life-changing journey.
The Project:
We need your support to fund Sarita's cochlear implant surgery and the associated therapy. This project is not just about one operation—it’s about demonstrating that everyone matters and deserves a chance to live a full life.
